The Process

Custom portraiture is an investment so choosing the right photographer for you is important. A lot of my work is shown on this site, both in the galleries and the blog archives, so that you can get a good feel for my work. If you like what you see and you’re looking for someone to capture the REAL LIFE expressions and interactions of your children or family, then let’s talk!

This is a brief overview of the process. You’ll receive more detailed information, suggestions about what to wear and what to expect once you’ve booked.

Booking a Session

Once you’ve decided you’d like to book a session, we’ll talk about available dates. Sessions are available on weekdays and weekends and usually book at least 2-3 weeks in advance. Outdoor sessions are held in the early morning or evening when the light is best. Studio sessions can be held throughout the day.

Sessions are most frequently held outdoors – anywhere from rural parks to urban downtown areas. If you have a nice yard, that may work, too. Sessions can take place inside your home but we’ll need an area with good natural light (not lamps!).

Your session fee is due within 7 days of booking to reserve your date. Prior to your session, I’ll also have you fill out a questionnaire and we’ll chat about your family and what your goals for the session are.

At the Session

Sessions generally last 1.5 – 2 hours but there’s no time limit. It’s best if you aren’t in a hurry so that we have plenty of time for getting to know each other, snack breaks and fun. If we’re shooting indoors, I’ll ask to tour through your home and check out the available light.

Newborn sessions tend to take a bit longer (up to 4 hours) to allow for nursing and being patient while the little one falls asleep.

After the session

When you book your session, we’ll also set a date for your ordering session – to fall approximately 3 weeks after your session. At this appointment, we’ll review the edited images from your session, see samples of print sizes and products and help you to figure out what might work best for you.

Make sure to check the blog or Facebook page in the meantime to catch a sneak peek from your session!
