Behind the Scenes: A Peek at School Portraits

I love photographing preschools. I love seeing all the cute faces and fun clothes, I love seeing how they change from year to year, I love the challenge of trying to connect with a child in a very limited time. I love finding a silly question or saying that makes almost every kid laugh and I love finding one random thing that sparks a stream of chatter in an otherwise quiet child. I love winning over the tough ones and I love the ones who become my new best friends and want to sit in my lap for the rest of the day (see my profile pic above). And I love it when I get notes from the parents who are so excited for their photos.

When I get home from a day or especially a week at preschool, I am exhausted. You might wonder why – they just sit on a chair and look cute, right? Mostly. Eventually. But there’s a lot of jumping around (me and them), silly faces and noises, and cajoling that often goes on beforehand. I thought I’d share some of the outtakes, bloopers and behind-the-scenes shots from this Spring’s shoots – silly faces, sad faces, funny looks. A day in the life. :)

And I think all these just make me love it even more.
