My friend (and wonderful photographer) Sopheava proposed that everyone do a “day in the life” collection of photos today. I grabbed my iPhone and tried to play along, although after seeing hers, I feel pretty lame! But here we go…

6:00am wakeup call. My bedside clock is set 20 minutes fast for some reason, which doesn’t really matter at all since I only use my phone’s clock anyway. It’s so dark out!

6:10am – Bedhead status isn’t as bad as usual. MySpace shot makes my schnoz look worse than usual. Shower.

6:25am – Kitty breakfast.

Kitties started getting canned food when one of them, Spencer, started need twice-daily insulin shots. Distract him with food and he barely notices the shot. Give him canned food and the other two cats need it, too! Spoiled, but they all share a can so not too spoiled.

6:30am – WHY CAN’T WE HAVE NICE THINGS?! My spider plant comes indoors for one night and gets a trimming already. Sigh.

Breakfast of champions. My friend Bethany, when I tell her I don’t drink coffee, says “you’re so good about your vices!” No, I say, I just have different ones. Diet Cherry Pepsi every morning.

6:45am – Answer emails before heading off for the day.

7:15am – Picking out props for preschool photos.

7:30am – 1+ hour commute to Plymouth in morning traffic.

All Day! – Day one of preschool portraits. We’re doing something different this time, indoors with a backdrop.

Some of the kiddos are into it.

Some not so much. Yet. I’ll be back twice more and can often win over even the toughest cases with time.

12:00pm – Lunch! More Diet Cherry Pepsi. This is my beer. After a morning of making silly faces and cajoling smiles, I’m ready for one.

Planning and coordinating the rest of the day’s shoot over the lunch table. Lots of kids to keep track of, who will be where when and who needs sibling photos.

1:30pm – Back to preschool.

One of my favorite scenes. When I leave for lunch, the kids are also eating lunch. When I return, they are asleep. I don’t know how this is accomplished, I imagine that magic is involved.

5:00pm – Heading home, stopping off at the studio to drop off some equipment.

6:30pm – Recharge. Batteries and self.

7:00pm – Watch Switched at Birth. Pretty sure I’m at least 15 years outside the target demographic for this show but I love ASL so I watch it anyway.

The evening onward – Holed up in my office, editing away! To bed soon and a repeat tomorrow.

langdon - love your office color! :)
Mary - I love your bedhead. And the half-eaten spider plant. And your Diet Cherry Pepsi addiction. And, well, the fact that your day makes me feel pretty darn normal!
Deborah Geddis Olsen - Seriously just finished Switched at Birth. I knew we were kindred spirits.
