It’s been quite awhile since my sister has been featured on my blog so she’s making another appearance, this time with a partner in crime. :)

Her long-time boyfriend (I don’t even know how long it’s been, just that a)I’ve already had to sit next to him at way too many dinners during which he’s touched MY SIDE and b) they picked my birthday as their anniversary which is GROSS) proposed to her at Wrigley field over the summer. I was disappointed to find that Wrigley does not have a giant jumbotron to facilitate utter humiliation should she say no but settled for the fact that it would be a very long car ride home from Chicago if they did. Okay, just kidding, I was excited for them.

Anyway! Here are some photos from their engagement session. Yes, I will be photographing the wedding, no I am not sad that I won’t get to stand up with her. I’ll take a camera over a bridesmaid’s dress any day, thankyouverymuch!

And since she’s family and special and stuff, here’s a slideshow of all the photos.

Sara & Alan {engaged}

tara k: OMG, mandy! these are fantastic! #4, #5 and #8 must displayed as LARGE canvases or i will be personally offended. ;) seriously, girl...spectacular!

Sara: I feel so honored!!! I love that you added that you would take a camera over a bridesmaids dress anyday! Lots of comments on facebook and everywhere about how much people love them. And we do too!!!!

Laura: These are so pretty! I love, love, LOVE, the 4th one down :)

Six months later and Cass is one! He’s grown a lot since our last session but still has those beautiful blue eyes. It’s so much fun to have repeat sessions because I love seeing kids as they grow and getting to hang out with people I already know. Besides, any family who wants to do a session in flip-flops is definitely a family I want to see again!

Not only did Cass’s family pick a fun spot for our session, but I got to accompany Cass on his first trip to the beach. Sand is never so exciting as when you’re one and seeing it for the first time.

At first he wanted to eat the rocks. Then he just wanted to pretend to eat the rocks and snicker while we tried to stop him.

Don’t they look like a perfect magazine family?

And a little something different…the soft sand and creamy baby skin was just calling for some lighting processing.

I thought it was especially cool to find out that Cass is already taking swimming lessons. I foresee lots of trips to the beach for this family this summer. :)

Maria Hays: What a happy little guy with such beautiful blue eyes! These are wonderful! I love the processing in your last two.

Jennifer Chaney: Oh those blue eyes are beautiful! What a great session - the little nakie shot in the water is my favorite. Lovely work!

rob: OMG, that's some crazy hair. he's an awesome kid!! The shots are gorgeous, like always!

mk: Isn't the hair awesome? I loved it...and it was windy so that helped even more.

Joseph Alawode: Your studio name is really catchy, different in a way and vey unique. talkless of your work, you've got beautiful work... good job.... it's such a joy when you see those little ones, expecially when you photograph them...

I redesigned! I was ready for some brighter colors and bigger photos. I’m still tinkering a bit so feel free to let me know if anything is broken or missing. In the meantime, here are some photos I took last year and never shared, posted to celebrate the new largeness!

We’ve had some nice days here lately in Minnesota. Warm, sunny, slightly reminiscent of that season we call Spring. Sunday wasn’t one of them. On Sunday, it was 45 and raaaainy. It was also the day that the St. Paul March for Babies was held. Not especially good timing. (Although a quick peek back at last year’s photos of the March for Babies and I see that the windchill was below zero that day. But still sunny!)

I was drenched just getting from the parking lot to the shelter at Phalen Park. But the people came anyway. They came in ponchos and trash bags and with all manner of fancy rain-resistant stroller contraptions.

Some of the Timberwolves girls came.

All Time Favorites came and DJed and people danced.

Patrick Hammer, meteorologist for Channel 5 Eyewitness News, came to tell us that yes, it was raining and no, he couldn’t fix it.

IMG 0599

And then the rain let up a little bit and people walked. And despite the rain and the cold, they were still smiling by the end of the 3 mile walk. :) Teams full of troopers at this walk… IMG 0798IMG 0808IMG 0818IMG 0873IMG 0877IMG 0881IMG 0887IMG 0898

One million people walk in the March for Babies each year and and the walk has raised $1.8 billion to help support local community programs that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. You can find out more about the walks on the March for Babies page (and even see some of my photos from last year on the Why March? page. :) )

.K: T.C. was there?! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?!?!?!

.K: ...oh nice pictures too.

mk: I invited you to go. You were looking at vegetables.

Shelley P: Nice work! I love the photos - and you are quite the trooper!

tara k: great shots of a very important event. you should be very proud! :)

LK: Wet or not, these shots really capture the spirit and purpose of the day. Great job!

If you’re a regular blog reader (i.e. you’re my mom), you may recognize these lovely ladies from the Teens 4 Charity shoot I did earlier. They’re sisters and their equally lovely mother is one of the adult leaders of the group. They met me at the Guthrie for a session just for them. It’s always such a nice change to work with gorgeous ladies who take direction well. Then I have to make fewer funny faces.

It’s also really fun when families are up for something a little different. These definitely aren’t your everyday portraits but how much fun are they? Mom was excited at the spots we were shooting in and I hope she’s equally excited with the results.

The best thing is, Mom does professional photographs every year which I think is so cool and so important! Hopefully I will be seeing these gals at least a few more times before they’re all grown up.

I’m off tomorrow to set up for the Midwest Kids Fest where I’ll be all weekend so email and phone responses may be a bit sparse until Monday. If you’re at the Kids Fest, stop by and say hi (and don’t forget, there’s a coupon here).

I’ve had a number of questions about whether the Fest will be appropriate for the much younger kids so iPhone willing, I’ll try to post a brief entry tomorrow mid-day with details!

I had a great time shooting with this pretty lady. In addition to being as tall as I am (rare!) and cute, she was up for anything. We got lucky with a warmish day (this was a few weeks ago, before our recent warm spurt) so shooting outside in the sun felt nice. How cute is her red coat?

She was even a good enough sport to suffer the cold for some short sleeve shots.

We also did some beautiful indoor shots of tastefuly less-clothed pregnant belly which I’ll put under a cut so you’re not surprised. :)

Dana Pugh: The 'less clothed' ones are my favorites ;) Although I do like the pop of the red against the snow!!! Now, if you combined the two then that would be really something--ha!

Pamela Telgenhoff: She is too cute! Great job.

Rachel: awesome color! i love them all.
