Mentoring for Beginners

March 2, 2010

I’ve been receiving an increasing number of inquiries from folks who just got new cameras or are interested in learning how to take better photos of their kids and would like some lessons. I’m giving some thought to putting together an online workshop for this purpose. It would be small with individualized attention, critique, feedback, etc. When the weather gets nicer, I may add an in-person workshop offering. At this point, it’s all just tentative but if you’re interested, can you leave a comment or drop me a note at contact@glimpsesofsoul.com? Thanks!

(This would just be for photography beginners and would cover the basics. Not for those hoping to turn professional or those currently practicing professionally. And sorry, I’m not currently mentoring others in business, although am flattered by the requests. :) )

Jeremie Bellenir: Yes please!

My cameras are all off on a little vacation at the cleaners and now I will be, too. I’ll be out of the office until Monday, January 4th and will begin returning any emails or phone calls at that time. Have a lovely holiday and don’t get lost in a snowbank!

And since my camera is in the shop, I’ll leave you with a snowflakey photo courtesy of my iPhone.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving comes to us out of the prehistoric dimness, universal to all ages and all faiths. At whatever straws we must grasp, there is always a time for gratitude and new beginnings. ~J. Robert Moskin

we are headed north

November 19, 2009

I’m heading out of town this weekend. All emails and phone calls will be returned on Monday.

In the meantime, enjoy a kitten.

I’ve had several more requests for mini-sessions from folks looking to get some holiday cards done so I’m setting up one more day of them. They will be held on November 15th in St. Paul. They will be held outdoors so if the weather is cold, you’ll want to dress warmly! This is the last weekend date that I have available for which I can guarantee holiday delivery so if you’d like to get prints or cards for the holidays and aren’t available on the weekdays, this is an excellent chance to get your session in!

Contact me to get your session booked!

Mini-sessions are 20 minute sessions and include a an online gallery of 10-12 images for purchasing. They’re a great way to get your holiday card photos done or just fit in a quick session if you haven’t otherwise been able to or if a full session doesn’t quite fit into your budget this year. I’m offering an awesome Digital Deluxe package this year which includes your choice of 5 digital files from your gallery – you’re free to use these to make your own prints, Christmas cards, blog posts, email newsletters, etc.

I’m also offering an entirely new batch of custom-designed holiday cards this year for those of you who want something personalized and unique but don’t want to do it yourselves.

*Session fee includes up to four family members. $25/ea for additional family members.

Roundup!

October 14, 2009

**1. I’m giving some thought to adding one more day of MINI-SESSIONS. They would be held on a Saturday in November, outdoors, and would be $500 for a 20 minute session, 10-12 proofs, 5 digital files or 4 digital files and 50 custom holiday cards. Is there interest in this? Please drop me a line if you think you’d like to book.**

2. The wife of a friend of mine (and mother to two adorably cute boys who I’ve photographed) just started a new blog called Mommyapolis. She’s sharing fun recipes and neat craft project ideas and I think it’ll be neat to watch her blog grow.

3. The North Star Roller Girls’ Season Opener is next Saturday, October 24th! If you’ve never seen a bout, now’s the time. If you just saw Whip It and want to see what derby is really like, now’s the time. The doors open at 6:30, bout starts at 7:30pm. If you sit track-side, and you should (unless you’re under 18, in which case, you can’t – but don’t worry, plenty of families bring kids and sit in general admission. Kids under 10 are free.), tickets are $12 in advance, $14 at the door. I’m excited to be going and hope to recruit some new fans this year!

And, y’know, some photos…
