Minnetrista Family

May 24, 2009

A quick sneak peek for a mom I know is anxious to see! I first connected with her at the Midwest Kids Fest where we both had booths – me for Glimpses of Soul obviously, and her for the Primose School of West Plymouth. Yesterday I headed out to Minnetrista to photograph her beautiful family and tiny newborn.

After we’d raced, thumb wrestled, jumped on the trampoline, figured out who didn’t eat their vegetables and waited while tiny Mr. B fell asleep, Grandma, Aunt and nieces came over to join the photo fun. I may have had to take a nap when I got home.

juliek: You are sooo talented!! Teh only thing that would make these better is if I knew these people. Jak

LK: These even look good from Ohio!

johanna: Definitely that 2nd b/w would make an excellent canvas! What a great shot! Nice work!

~SarahInParis~: LOVE that first one. Wow what an impact. Although I have to say they are all super fabulous! Great work!

Jennifer Chaney: Oh I agree with Sarah! That first one is amazing. What lens?

Just Between Friends

Just Between Friends is the nation’s leading children’s and maternity consignment sales event. It’s a sale of “gently used” children’s clothing, name brand maternity wear, toys, playground equipment, baby and nursery items, books, videos, and many more unique children’s items

There’s just one event left in Minnesota this spring and it’ll be held May 28-30 at the Bielenberg Sports Center in Woodbury. You can still sign up to be a consigner or a volunteer and if you’re either, you get access to the special pre-sale before the general public is admitted.

You can get all the details on the JBF Woodbury website. And if you see me walking around with my camera, come say hi! I may even have a coupon for you.

Hermama: Nice blog post. I love the design of the site!

I’m busy fulfilling orders today, before my entire house is relocated to New Mexico, courtesy of crazy, Wizard of Oz style winds. Just wanted to share a few that made me smile.

Monday Mish Mash

May 18, 2009

I just spent the last few days in Utica, New York so this has been a Monday of regrouping. I think large portions of Utica have seen better days but man, it’s practically a photographer’s dream town – fantastic urban grunge everywhere! Teens of Utica, I think you should arrange a large senior shoot and fly me out to do it!

In any case, a mish-mash blog entry to entertain you this Monday.

1. The response to the derby wedding entry couldn’t have been more fun for me. My iPhone buzzed all weekend with notifications of comments and emails from various sources. I’m so glad I got to share such a neat event with so many people. It even got featured in Rock N’ Roll Bride which is a super cool blog that I hadn’t seen before. So inspiring both for photographers and brides-to-be.

2. Just two weeks left in the May Day All Month Long Sale!

3. I’m also going to be running some Facebook-only specials so if you’re not a fan of Glimpses of Soul Photography yet you should become one!.

4. Are you voting? Please?

5. If you’re furnishing (or about to furnish) a nursery and aren’t reading the Tiny Decor blog, you’re missing out. It’s full of neat finds for furnishing a natural and green yet modern nursery. The blog is run by the owners of the Minnesota-based Tiny Decor boutique.

Katie [kage imagery]: Isn't Rock n' Roll bride awesome! I had a wedding featured on there a few weeks ago and I've been checking it ever since. Congrats!

Roller Derby Wedding!

May 14, 2009

So remember back in March when I spent a night at the roller derby and thought it was the coolest thing ever? Yeah, that experience got topped. Because last weekend, not only did I attend the championship of the North Star Roller Girls, I got to witness and help photograph a derby wedding. Say what?

Below is the lovely wedding couple whose post-wedding names are Cookie and Fadam Strange. They got married at the half-time of the Championship bout at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  Prior to that, we met at St. Anthony Main to do some portraits because really, could they be more fun looking? Both hairstyles are courtesy of Cookie.

What else would a derby wedding cake look like? Hand-crafted by roller girl Becky HomeWrecky. (If you need your own awesome cake, you can contact Becky HomeWrecky (Karna Hudoba) at karnaann(at)msn.com.)

All the roller girls served as bridesmaids at the wedding. And you’ve never seen a finer looking bunch, let me tell you.

The ceremony was performed by Kili St. Cyr and that stunningly dressed ring-bearer on the left is announcer Grizzly Madden. You might wonder how Mom would feel about a roller derby wedding. Take a closer peek at Mom’s outfit…that bit of red poking out is her Violent Femme’s uniform.

You might not think a derby wedding would be all that sentimental but there were some teary eyes as the couple danced the bridesmaids sang and waved their arms. In reality, as crazy and different as it was, it was really everything a wedding should be – fun, meaningful and full of friends. I was honored to witness it.

SheNaNigans: This is the coolest thing ever! Thanks so much for catching that and sharing with us!
